The BeneFITs of FIT Employees

We exercise to improve the state of our bodies, whether it is to lose weight, to bulk up, or to get toned. What we may not always consider is the positive effects that exercise has on our minds (and our moods). Some people say that a workout is a stress reliever, which it is! That has already been physiologically proven. Working out is an excellent way to let off steam from a tough day or to cheer up when you’re feeling down. It can be refreshing and rewarding.  One session at the gym may be the difference between a bad day and a good day or between a good day and a wonderful day!

Healthy people are happy people. It’s not a hard concept to grasp. We can then deduce that healthy employees are happy employees. Happy employees are productive and energized about what they do. So as an employer, you want to do all that you can to promote health because happiness and productivity will follow. How do you go about this?

  • Install a workout program right in the workplace!
  • No vending machines. Encourage healthy food options instead.
  • Have a kitchen specifically for employee use.
  • Invite fitness professionals to come and give workshops on topics like nutrition or disease management.
  • Introduce your employees to different forms of fitness by having an instructor come and give demo classes. Try Zumba, boot camp, yoga, or martial arts. This is a great team builder!
  • Offer incentives for employees who reach a fitness goal or participate in an event like a 5k, 10k, half marathon, or marathon. It may even spark some friendly competition among the staff.

By integrating any of these suggestions into your workplace, you will not only be helping yourself as an employer but you will also inspire your employees to take control of their health. Trust me when I say that will the most gratifying part of all!
